"Great. These Snakes are on crack"

Its like domino's, you put one after another, each on their end, when you have built the pattern you want, you knock down the first one and away you go. Snakes on a Plane is like this for me. The film starts placing the domino's from the start, except rather than domino's the director uses cliches.

The film opens with an over the top triad boss, who kills some guy (who cares), witnessed by some young surfer dude. Jackson appears, surfer agrees to testify. They take over first class of a jumbo bound for L.A. and soon chaos ensues.

The next load of cliches are the passengers. The single mum, the arrogant British businessman, the kids flying alone for the first time, the sexist pilot etc etc. Each is introduced, and you are left wondering exactly how they will meet their maker.

Once the the domino's start to tumble the chaos is rapid and moves along at a great pace. People die in funny and awful ways, with Jackson in the middle coordinating it all like the conductor of some macabre (yet funny) orchestra.

I laughed a lot during the film, some bits are funny some are so stupid that you can see straight away what's going to happen. The film doesn't take itself seriously, it knows exactly what its all about, and Jackson is on the joke as well.

The supporting actors all do a reasonable job of keeping up and not being too crap. The best performance other than Jackson is the SNAKES of course. These CG suckers look pretty cool and always seem to go for the body part most comic/painful (check out the two toilet scenes).

So what did I think of it? Well I loved it. It doesn't try and con you into thinking this is some deep and meaningful piece of cinema. The plot is there purely to get to the part where the snakes are let loose on the plane, simple. Its funny, the effects are good and overall I loved it!

Don't go to this film expecting a plot; because at best it's thin. Go to this film without any preconceptions. Go because it has Samuel Jackson, snakes and because you like trashy movies. But most of all GO!

Something better?

Think I found something better than Last FM. Wow I am fickle! Anyway Pandora for me produces a better more coherent list of tracks and seems much more tailorable.

What this doesn't have that Last FM does, is that a lack of community (that I could see). The great things about Last FM, is you can share what you've listened to with others, join other people that like the same tracks as you and exchange opinions. Pandora on the other hand is gear much more to straight listening to music you like.

Give em both a try and see which you prefer.

Music Lovers Rejoice

I was recently recommended Last FM, this is a great site if you like music. As its name suggests it is a radio station (its the FM part that give it away :P). Music is categorised by the users themselves in the form of tags, these tag can be anything you like. You can then use these tags to find music that you might like to listen to.

I listen to tracks from my iPod via the all powerful iTunes, I downloaded a Scrobbler via Last FM and this records the tracks I listen to and uploads them to Last FM, this creates a profile of what I like and after awhile you get neighbours that have similar musical tastes.

You can also download a player that will enable you to stream tracks from Last FM, these tracks can be based on tags or what your neighbours like.

Anyway go play.

Psychotic bastard, or benevolent ruler?

I'm running my own country!!! Well not in the traditional sense but still its better than nothing. "What are you prattling on about!", I hear you cry. Sorry I'll get to it. Here at Nation States, you get the chance to create and run your own nation. The first thing you nede to do is fill out the questionairre to decide what kind of government you will have. You can choose a flag, a national animal and national currency. Each day you are faced with difficult (well not really :P) decisions, pressing matters of state, which you get to choose the outcome. How you legislate these issues effects how your state will progress.

Anyway if you want a bit of a distraction then head over and take a look. My nation is called the Dangerons.

I find your lack of snakes disturbing

I stumbled upon the film title "Snakes on a Plane" whilst persuing IMDB (sad I know). Omg I thought how naff does that film sound? They even had Samual L. Jackson signup for it. I posted it as an amusement on a forum or two and thought nothing of it.

Well it would appear that I have stumbled upon the lastest internet craze, it would appear that the unwashed masses of the web got hold of the title and let their imaginations run wild. The film has gathered a massive cult following far in advance of its release date. With loads of spoof trailers, and fake pop videos etc. If you head over to YTMND and do a search you will find a rich vein of amusing homages and piss takes.

My favourite google video so far is All You Snakes Are Belong to Us, watch and laugh :P
