The film opens with an over the top triad boss, who kills some guy (who cares), witnessed by some young surfer dude. Jackson appears, surfer agrees to testify. They take over first class of a jumbo bound for L.A. and soon chaos ensues.
The next load of cliches are the passengers. The single mum, the arrogant British businessman, the kids flying alone for the first time, the sexist pilot etc etc. Each is introduced, and you are left wondering exactly how they will meet their maker.
Once the the domino's start to tumble the chaos is rapid and moves along at a great pace. People die in funny and awful ways, with Jackson in the middle coordinating it all like the conductor of some macabre (yet funny) orchestra.
I laughed a lot during the film, some bits are funny some are so stupid that you can see straight away what's going to happen. The film doesn't take itself seriously, it knows exactly what its all about, and Jackson is on the joke as well.
The supporting actors all do a reasonable job of keeping up and not being too crap. The best performance other than Jackson is the SNAKES of course. These CG suckers look pretty cool and always seem to go for the body part most comic/painful (check out the two toilet scenes).
So what did I think of it? Well I loved it. It doesn't try and con you into thinking this is some deep and meaningful piece of cinema. The plot is there purely to get to the part where the snakes are let loose on the plane, simple. Its funny, the effects are good and overall I loved it!
Don't go to this film expecting a plot; because at best it's thin. Go to this film without any preconceptions. Go because it has Samuel Jackson, snakes and because you like trashy movies. But most of all GO!
